Take it for Granite

Granite suggests something solid, permanent, immovable.

Good health often feels the same way.

Right up until it doesnโ€™t.

A kidney stone recently knocked me sideways for a few days. Even after things stabilized, recovery took longer than I expected.

The experience reminded me how easy it is to take our health for granted, or perhaps, take it for granite.

When we feel well, we rarely think about it. We move through life assuming our body and mind will continue supporting us quietly in the background the way they always have.

Until something changes.

These past couple of weeks did not dramatically change my life. They did increase my appreciation for simply feeling healthy again.

We rarely think about feeling healthy until we cannot fully live our lives the way we want to.

Even when you do take care of yourself, health can still interrupt life. Those moments deepen appreciation for feeling well.

That awareness alone feels worth paying attention to.

Do not take it for granite.
